Avoid Snake Problems in Your Northern VA Home with These 3 Steps

Snake problems - how to avoid and remedy

Snake infestations are not uncommon to those who make their home in northern Virginia.  These creepy critters can slither into a house without leaving much of a trace.  In order to ensure that snakes in your area do not receive invitations into your home this year, you will definitely want to follow these three simple preventative steps:

Step One: Recognizing the Type of Snake

In order for you to know how to get rid of the infestation in your yard, you will first need to know the type of snake with which you are dealing.  Certain species are less affected by some preventative measures, while other species are not as robust.  Understanding the unique characteristics of the specific types of snakes in the northern Virginia area is the first step towards getting your property back under your control.  It is important to note that misdiagnosing the species, problem, or solutions can eventually cause the snake issue to get out of hand.

Step Two: Segregation of the Problem

Once you realize the snake species causing your problem, it will be much easier for you to segregate the snakes into a humane area that is far enough from your home to keep it out of harm’s way.  Exclusion of the snakes in your yard will prevent an infestation while still preserving the sanctity of life and local law.  In addition, this practice can buy you valuable time while you contact a reputable wildlife control expert.  The only way for you to begin to get a handle on things is to perform some sort of compartmentalization on your property, even if just to take an inventory on the severity of your infestation.

Step Three: Keep Grass Cut Low

Snakes absolutely love tall, lush grass, which is precisely why you should always make sure that you keep the grass in your yard cut low.  Short-cut lawns prevent the snakes from successfully finding a safe place to hide.  When the animal does not feel safe, it will not stay in that area for long.  Beware though; cutting your grass short without proper exclusion measures may cause the infestation to carry itself into your house.  Because of this, it is essential that this be the last step you take towards prevention.
